Dr. Hanita Hassan is a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.  She is currently the Chair of Language Academy, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and  Head of Research Group (RG) – Language and Communication in Society or in short LCS. Among books written by her are Multimodal Communication of Corporate Website Design, New Perspectives in Language and Communication Research and English for Career Search.  Her book on Multimodal Communication of Corporate Website Design won the Original Book Award, UTM in 2012.  She is an editor for LSP International Journal.  Her research interests include Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), multimodality, discourse analysis and ELT methodology.  She has presented papers at several international conferences, and some of the papers are The Use of Mutlimodal Modes in Representing ‘1Malaysia’ presented at 39th International Systemic Functional Congress 2012 in University of Technology Sydney, Australia and The Roles of Media in Realising ‘Unity in Diversity’ at International Conference on Knowledge, Culture and Society 2012 in Jeju Island, South Korea, of which this paper won the Best Paper Award.  The current postgraduate studies supervised by Dr Hanita Hassan are Multimodal Meaning-Making of Tourism Promotional Videos, Multimodal Representations of ISIS on Facebook, Intercultural Communication Needs of Eco Tourism Service Providers, Narrative Structure of Malay Short Stories, Teaching ESL Writing using Blended Learning Methods, SFL Analysis of Beauty Product Advertisements and Computer Mediated Discourse Analysis of the Representations of Malaysian Identity in YouTube Comments.
